The moon is rising over England with this traditional German tune:
This is one of the most popular lullabies in Germany. Mike Wilbury translated the original
German lyrics and used an English version of this tune for his children's musical A Toy Soldier
In Love back in 2007. Ian Watts did the vocals on that first version though he never heard that
song before. When it came to producing the Nursery Rhymes album Ian remembered the tune and
suggested to record a version for the Nursery Rhyme Collection. Again it is Ian Watts doing the
vocals, accompanied by a beautiful orchestra arrangement written by Rick Benbow.
The moon is gently rising,
the twinkling stars surprisingly
well and clear to see
The trees all black and silent
as moonlight keeps on shining
the feel of peace and harmony
The pale and distant moonlight,
to see it through the dark night
seems wonderful to me
To view the suns reflection
in glorious perfection
now lay your head and go to sleep
The moon is gently rising,
the twinkling stars surprisingly
well and clear to see
The trees all black and silent
as moonlight keeps on shining
the feel of peace and harmony
